We're back! Only different.
The blog formerly known as Mother/Daughter Design Interest is now Common Bond Design. We even have a new url to celebrate! Our new home on the interwebs is www.commonbonddesign.com.
So, why the switch? Since I left my full-time job in June, my mom and I have been taking on more design projects for clients. Since our design firm is Common Bond Design , it made sense to merge the identity of the blog with the work we do. And from there, the url move was a no brainer. (Our old url was such a mouthful, it sort of made me cringe every time I had to recite it. Yeesh.)
I know change is scary, but we've tried to make this transition as smooth as possible for our readers. Here's a quick breakdown of how it might affect you:
- If you use an RSS reader | If you read the blog on any type of RSS feed aggregator, like Feedly or Bloglovin', you will need to add www.commonbonddesign.com to your feed to receive new posts.
- If you subscribe via email | You're golden. No need to lift a finger. Feedburner* handles our email delivery, so we simply changed the source of the feed from our old url to www.commonbonddesign.com. New posts will reach you via email just as they always have!
- If you don't subscribe via email, but would like to | Navigate to www.commonbonddesign.com and scroll down to the middle of the page until you see "enter your email address" in the right-hand sidebar. Enter your email address, hit subscribe, and you're done!
- For all you surfers, browsers and skimmers out there | Drop by www.commonbonddesign.com to check out new posts whenever the mood strikes. Forget our old url. Banish it from your mind!
(Note: there are rumors that Google might be doing away with Feedburner. If and when that happens, we'll move to Mail Chimp. But, again, we should be able to transfer over our subscribers, so there should be no action required on your part!)
Ok. Now that we've covered the basics, on to the FUN. Most delightfully, we have a fresh new website design, courtesy of graphic designer extraordinaire, Amanda Pastenkos!
So fresh and so clean, clean. Exactly what I wanted (clean, crisp, minimalist), but also better than I could ever have conceived of on my own.
Although the redesign is mostly aesthetic, we will be using the launch as an opportunity to change up some of our content. For example, after a lot of thought and discussion, we've decided we won't post every day.
When I worked in an office job, I looked forward to blogging during my lunch break as a chance to connect with the creative side of my brain. Now that I'm a free agent, I want to be more diligent about aiming to provide original content. Granted, it's not always possible-- or even desirable-- to post exclusively about things no one else has posted about. For example, you can bet your bottom dollar (thank you, Annie, for a PG-rated alternative) that I'm going to post about H&M's new home line. Has every design blogger on the planet already posted about their product line, newly available in the US-of-A? Sure. But I love it, it's awesome, it's cheap, I can't keep it to myself and I shall tell you more in a future post.
But the point is, instead of churning out daily content, my mom and I want to be out DOING STUFF so we can share our completed projects with you all!
I hope you'll enjoy the change and appreciate some of the new content we'll be introducing (hint: check out the sidebar of the screenshot above!) If you have feedback on our website design, our editorial schedule, our content or anything else, please do let us know using our new contact form!
Before we sign off, look what happened to the neon caterpillars living in our parsley:
They turned into BUTTERFLIES! That Lady Nature is full o' surprises.
