I'm calling it. Ladies and gentlemen, we are on the cusp of a Solange Knowles moment. Maybe it's just my neighborhood pride talking, but this lady has the talent, style and dance moves to rival big sis Beyonce.
Check out her Carroll Gardens apartment and new music video, Losing You. In both outlets, she hits that sweet spot where enviable, inspirational taste meets relatability. The design aesthetic and architectural details in her Carroll Gardens apartment are exquisite (envy/inspiration? check.) But get this-- it's a rental (hey! I can relate to that.)
After the jump: A photo mash-up from her apartment and video.
Her fondness for funky vintage textiles with a retro-hipster flair are represented in both her Brooklyn abode and her video, filmed in Cape Town and featuring African cultural phenomenon Les Sapueres. While I couldn't pull off her effortless moves in a million years, I could see myself incorporating her look into my wardrobe. Her style is as cool and approachable as Beyonce's is glamorous and impracticable for the average working girl. (Oh man, I can already feel the Beyonce fan club's rage already. But let me ask you this: when was the last time you had an occasion to wear a be-feathered, be-sequined plunge-front mini dress? In contrast, I'd wear Solange's brick patterned suit to the office in a hot minute.)
Now without further ado, feast your eyes on this mash-up of apartment shots and stills from "Losing You." It's a textiles bonanza. Stay tuned for an edition of "The Look" inspired by her Brooklyn digs!
